Winter Indoor
Tournament Guide

Convention center tournaments are a different beast. Here's your survival guide for the indoor season.

Indoor Season Is Its Own World

Winter indoor tournaments move from sprawling outdoor complexes to convention centers, domes, and fieldhouses. The logistics change completely: parking is expensive, venues are loud, and your kid is playing on turf or hardwood instead of grass or dirt. Here's what changes and how to adapt.

Convention Center Tips

  • Parking costs add up fast. $20-$40/day at major convention centers. Look for off-site lots or hotel shuttle deals.
  • Pack light but smart. You're carrying everything through a convention center. Use a rolling bag.
  • Noise levels are extreme. Multiple games happening simultaneously in one giant space. Ear protection for younger siblings.
  • Food inside is overpriced. Pack your cooler and eat outside. Most venues allow re-entry.

Dome and Fieldhouse Tips

  • Turf fields play faster. The ball moves differently on turf. Get there early for warmup.
  • Temperature inside varies wildly. Domes can be 80°F even in January. Dress in layers.
  • Facilities are often basic. Fieldhouse restrooms and concessions are usually minimal. Plan accordingly.

Travel Planning for Winter

  • Flight cancellations spike in winter. Book refundable fares or drive if the distance is reasonable.
  • Road conditions matter. Check weather on your route, not just at the destination.
  • Hotels near convention centers charge premium rates. Look 10-15 minutes outside downtown for significant savings.
